Petroleum engineering is a field of engineering concerned with the activities related to the production of Hydrocarbons, which can be either crude oil or natural gas.[1] Exploration and production are deemed to fall within the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry. Exploration, by earth scientists, and petroleum engineering are the oil and gas industry's two main subsurface disciplines, which focus on maximizing economic recovery of hydrocarbons from subsurface reservoirs. Petroleum geology and geophysics focus on provision of a static description of the hydrocarbon reservoir rock, while petroleum engineering focuses on estimation of the recoverable volume of this resource using a detailed understanding of the physical behavior of oil, water and gas within porous rock at very high pressure.

Geological exploration is the process of finding commercially viable mineral resource and the objective is to locate it in the shortest possible time and at the lowest possible cost. The development of exploration technology over a century is briefed along with the emerging challenges for the exploration.

Drilling operation is the first contact between the formation and the non-native fluids and equipment. Drilling fluids play a vital role during the drilling operations by lubricating the bottom-hole assembly, cooling the drilling bit, lifting-up the cuttings, and forming impermeable filter cakes.

'Upstream' is about extracting oil and natural gas from the ground; 'midstream' is about safely moving them thousands of miles; and 'downstream' is converting these resources into the fuels and finished products we all depend on.

Outsourcing services are both available onshore and offshore. Onshore outsourcing refers to service providers located in the same country as your office headquarters. In contrast, offshore outsourcing is contracting a company located outside your country with considerable time zone differences.

Pipeline transport is the long-distance transportation of a liquid or gas through a system of pipes—a pipeline—typically to a market area for consumption.

Petrochemicals are chemical products derived from petroleum, although many of the same chemical compounds are also obtained from other fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas or from renewable sources such as corn, sugar cane, and other types of biomass.

Petroleum refining or oil refining is an industrial process that extracts crude oil from the earth and converts it into useful items such as liquefied petroleum

Blending is the last step in the refining process that mixes the optimal combination of components (among various petroleum streams) to produce the final finished product. Blending is much more complicated than a simple mixing of components.

Fuel Management means the act or practice of controlling flammability and reducing resistance to control of fuels through mechanical, chemical, biological, or manual means or by fire, in support of land management objectives.

Food additive, any of various chemical substances added to foods to produce specific desirable effects. Additives such as salt, spices, and sulphites have been used since ancient times to preserve foods and make them more palatable. With the increased processing of foods in the 20th century, there came a need for both the greater use of and new types of food additives. Many modern products, such as low-calorie, snack, and ready-to-eat convenience foods, would not be possible without food additives.

The environmental impact of the petroleum industry is extensive and expansive due to petroleum having many uses. Crude oil and natural gas are primary energy and raw material sources that enable numerous aspects of modern daily life and the world economy. Their supply has grown quickly over the last 150 years to meet the demands of rapidly increasing human population, creativity, knowledge, and consumerism.

Geophysical techniques used for petroleum exploration utilize equipment to measure such things as: electrical currents, gravitational and magnetic anomalies

As oil reserves shrink and it becomes more expensive and dangerous to find and exploit new ones, the oil industry is turning to what’s been called the digital oil field to better and less expensively extract and use oil from existing fields

It can be said that every industry can benefit from artificial intelligence and while that may be true, the oil and gas industry may stand to benefit the most. Oil and gas is one of the most lucrative industries, it's also one of the most dangerous. Artificial Intelligence optimizes business operations, productivity, and safety. Here are six ways AI is solving various challenges of the oil and gas industry.

A fossil fuel is a hydrocarbon-containing material formed naturally in the earth's crust from the remains of dead plants and animals that is extracted and burned as a fuel. The main fossil fuels are coal, crude oil and natural gas.

Hydraulic fracturing, commonly known a Fracturing is a process that injects high-pressure liquid into an oil- or gas-bearing rock formation to create fractures. This pressure typically yields improved flows, making it useful for oil and gas firms seeking more economical production in areas that would otherwise produce low-flow wells.
